SB1 Will Gut Local Funding—Here’s How You Can Stop It
Indiana’s SB1 might sound like good news—nobody wants to pay higher property taxes. But what they aren’t telling you is that this bill slashes funding for cities and towns without replacing it.
By 2028, Greencastle will lose over $500,000 in annual revenue. Putnam County schools? Nearly $2 million gone. That means less funding for roads, libraries, schools, police, and fire services.
This isn’t just a Greencastle problem—every Indiana city and town will be affected. Without replacement funding, local governments will be forced to make deep cuts to essential services.
🚨 Here’s what you can do:
📅 SB1 will be amended on Tuesday, February 11. You have until then to make your voice heard. Contact your state senators and tell them:
✅ We support property tax relief, BUT it must come with additional funding for cities and towns.
✅ Defunding public services is not the answer.
This weekend, take a few minutes to call or email your legislators. If we don’t act now, we’ll be paying the price in lost services for years to come.
